Mathematics Visitors - 2006
September 1, 2006 to July 31, 2007
J. Salvador Sánchez
(Universitat Jaume I (Castellón, Spain))
to work with Lucy Kuncheva on the project: Combining classifiers and prototype selection for learning in partially supervised environments.
for research discussions with Ronnie Brown and Tim Porter.
Dmitry P. Vetrov
Dorodnicyn Computing Center of Russian Academy of Sciences,
PhD student in Moscow State University)
to work with Lucy Kuncheva on the project: The improvement of generalization ability of machine learning algorithms via stability principle.
This visit is related to the current European grant ( http://www.ann.jussieu.fr/IHP/),
He has offered to give a talk entitied:
Robust a posteriori error estimates for finite element discretizations of the heat equation with discontinuous coefficients.
This is relevant to the mathematical analysis and numerical simulation of problems where material properties can be discontinuous across interfaces, e.g layered materials etc.
for discussions with the Pure Mathematics research group,
and to give a seminar entitled: Nielsen fixed point theorems.
for discussions with the computational discrete algebra group,
and to examine Gareth Evans' thesis, Involutive noncommutative bases.
